How Nintendo is Creating Distinction Between the Wii and the Wii U

Recently, Nintendo has had trouble making their consoles unique, especially because the consoles share similar names and looks to the previous generation. One way Nintendo is trying to combat this problem with the Wii U is by the using something as simple as the console position.

While both the Wii U and the Wii can be placed either horizontally or vertically, most of the time you’re going to see the Wii U placed in such a way as to show off its horizontal design, as opposed to the Wii’s vertical design. Here’s what Nintendo had to say:

“The Wii went out into the world with a mainly vertical design, so in order to create a distinction, we went with a mainly horizontal design for the Wii U. But we have prepared a stand so that it can also stand upright.”

While this solution is not as ideal as coming up with a different or “more creative” name, the fact that really matters is that Nintendo is doing its best to create some distinction between the two consoles.
